Berkshire Project
Pittsfield, MA

Owned by:   Power Trust II

Location:   Pittsfield, Massachusetts

Heat energy sold to:   Crane Paper Mill (behind the plant)

Fuel source:   Solid municipal waste

The plant burns solid municipal waste from municipalities throughout the Berkshires. About two-thirds of the revenue comes from "tipping fees" paid to dump the waste. The waste is burned under very high temperatures in an environmentally-friendly way. Trash-burning plants produce a volume of ash equal to one-tenth the volume of the incoming trash. Steam generated by the furnaces is sold to the Crane Paper Company, for use in its facilities that produce all of the U.S. Currency.

Ridgewood successfully exited this investment in October, 2007.
