The Providence Project is the largest electric power plant fueled by landfill methane gas east of the Mississippi River. The gas, which otherwise would escape into the air causing severe pollution and noxious odors, is collected, cleaned up, and used as fuel for our nine engine-generator sets. The equipment to clean the gas is located in the left foreground of the picture. The power plant itself is located inside the building.
Ridgewood acquired the plant when it was running at only 75% capacity. Since making a number of management and engineering improvements, the plant's capacity factor has regularly exceeded 95%.
The Providence landfill that the project takes gas from is large enough to support a much larger power project. Ridgewood has begun to negotiate the agreements for this project and is working on plans to double the size of the output from the site.
